Energy consumption data is key to understanding how a building is performing. It’s also critical for credible carbon reporting, effective asset management, decarbonisation planning and meeting regulatory, investor and lender expectations.

However, right across the UK real estate sector, most investors and owners lack access to complete, whole‑building energy data, particularly in multi‑let buildings. This creates material gaps in benchmarking, net zero pathway modelling, investment decision‑making and regulatory readiness. These challenges persist despite significant advances in digital platforms, data infrastructure and the increasing rollout of smart and advanced meters.

To help address these data gaps, Real Estate: UK have developed new guidance on collecting energy data for investors, developers, landlords, asset managers and property managers.

The webinar will introduce the guidance, and explore:
- why utility data matters;
- the practical routes available today to access energy data;
- the legal and consent frameworks governing access to tenant energy data;
- recommended roles, responsibilities, processes, templates and implementation steps for obtaining and managing utility data; and
- areas where policy, market, and regulatory change may be required to close the remaining utility data gap at scale.
