BPF response to DBT's late payment consultation

The BPF has responded to the Department for Business and Trade’s consultation on tackling late payment. In the response, we highlight that we don't support proposals to prohibit the use of retentions in construction contracts, as retentions remain an essential tool for ensuring the delivery of defect-free buildings. If the Government is minded to legislate, our preferred approach would be to protect retention sums rather than remove them altogether.
