We have responded to MHCLG's consultation on proposals requiring local planning authorities to consult the Secretary of State before refusing applications for strategic commercial development. We support the principle of the proposal in helping deliver strategic commercial development, including industrial and logistics, while highlighting the importance of maintaining timely and efficient decision making. We also stress the need for clear guidance and safeguards to ensure the process supports investor confidence and does not introduce unnecessary delay or uncertainty into the planning system.
